Training and Empowerment

Training and Empowerment Grants are made four times a year to encourage lay and clergy leaders to take advantage of learning opportunities in Colorado and elsewhere. Designed to complement direct training provided by the Foundation, these grants fund up to one half of the total training cost. Previously awarded grants have ranged from $33 to $1,000 for such trainings as clinical pastoral education, theology classes, workshops and seminars on subjects of interest to Christian leaders and congregation members. Grants do not typically exceed $1000.

Application Guidelines

  • Training and Empowerment Grants are prospective and will not be granted to fund training that has already taken place.
  • Applicants must be Colorado residents who intend to serve the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Colorado and be endorsed by their parish.
  • Submit a Training and Empowerment Grant Application using the Word file provided on our website. All applications must be word processed.
  • A cover letter describing any additional relevant information may be submitted.
  • Funds awarded must be matched by at least another source, and verification of the match(es) must be provided. The other funding source(s) may include the applicant's parish, other base of ministry, personal funds or other funding.
  • Up to 50% of the total training cost will be matched at the discretion of the committee with a maximum of $1000.00 per applicant.
  • Priority will be given to applications from members of congregations that have not previously received Training and Empowerment Grants.
  • Incomplete applications, i.e. missing endorsement and/or matching funds attachment, incomplete budget, and/or incomplete answers, may delay or void your request.
  • Applicants must agree to complete a Training and Empowerment Report after the training, which provides feedback to the Foundation for stewardship and marketing purposes. All reports must be word processed.
  • After receiving the grant, if the recipient doesn't attend the training (cancellation, not enough funds, last minute emergency, etc.), the recipient must return the funds to the Foundation.
  • If an applicant doesn't have access to a word processor or if a congregation is applying for a workshop to be attended by multiple parishioners, please contact the Foundation's Program Administrator, Vivian Berríos–Torres at 303.534.6778 or email vivian@coef.org for further instructions.
